Army veteran Trevon Logan has won a $200,000 lottery prize, just in time for her 45th birthday, reported The Courier-Tribune of North Carolina.
“It’s the best birthday gift I could ask for,” said Logan, a Desert Storm veteran from Graham, North Carolina.
She had a strategy.
Logan stopped by the Smart Buy Exxon in Graham to buy a $5 scratch-off ticket, the Courier-Tribune reported.
“I like playing the first or last ticket,” Logan said. “So when he was opening up a new book of tickets I said, ‘Give me that one.’”
Her strategy got her $139,003 after state and federal taxes. She claimed her prize on Wednesday and said she plans to use the money to pay bills and send her granddaughter to college, according to the news report.
“I want to make sure her education is taken care of,” Logan said.
